Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ30 Digital Camera
With the Panasonic DMC-TZ30 you get a 20x Leica zoom lens in a surprisingly compact body which also has 14 megapixels, improved image stabilisation and GPS satellite mapping.
Leica 20x Zoom Lens
The lens in the TZ30 is a Leica DC design with 20x Optical Zoom. The 35mm equivalent for this is a staggering 24-480mm, which includes extra wide-angle for those indoor or group photos. Nano Surface Coating keeps flare and ghosting away from your images too. Just in case you needed to zoom in further, there is 40x Intelligent Zoom, a 2x digital zoom on top of the lens range, using Intelligent Resolution Technology which produces images of quality similar to those taken just with optical zoom.
14.1 Megapixel High Sensitivity MOS Sensor
Newly designed for this range, the MOS image sensor possesses an excellent Signal-to-Noise Ratio which means fewer data errors and therefore less grainy pictures. Add this to Intelligent Noise Reduction technology from the Venus Engine chip and you get super smooth image quality with real lifelike gradation. The Venus Engine’s fast processing also permits Full Resolution Burst shooting as fast as 10 frames per second and 0.1 second “Light Speed AF” focusing.
Full HD Movies
Enjoy movie clips taken in Full 1920x1080 quality at 50 frames per second using Progressive imaging (the whole image is refreshed 50 times every second). You can record in high quality AVCHD format or opt for the PC-friendly MP4 codec. As for the soundtrack, you get Dolby Digital Stereo Creator, zoom noise reduction and Auto Wind Cut to filter out unwanted noise.
The GPS receiver in this model also comes with World Map Information where you can transfer map information from the bundled DVD onto the camera’s SD card. The information includes landmarks from approx 90 countries all over the world and mapping can scale down to 1/25,000 or even closer.
The POWER O.I.S. optical image stabiliser on the TZ30 boasts double the compensation compared with its predecessor MEGA O.I.S. and is great for low frequency corrections like the camera movement when pressing the shutter button. – It also has an Active Mode which is particularly effective when walking while in video mode.
CameraLabs, April 2012 - the TZ30 received the Highly Recommended Award, with a score of 87%.
"...the TZ30 boasts a longer 20x optical range squeezed into a slimmer body, full 1080p video, a raft of special effects and built-in GPS mapping in addition to the database of landmarks introduced a couple of generations ago...it sets the benchmark for pocket super-zooms."
